Italian composer Matteo D'Amico, member of Rome's celebrated Santa Cecilia academy, introduces his Stabat mater, a strikingly original reimagination of the traditional liturgy, in an American premiere performance.
Scored for narrator, soprano, mezzo, strings, and percussion,
the work uses text from Sicilian author Vincenzo Consolo's Spasimo di Palermo
and was written in response to the notorious assassination in 1992 of the anti-mafia judge Paolo Borsellino.
