Welcome to the beginning French home page. In this site you will find information about FREN 101 and 102, which constitute the first year of instruction. You will also get information about other French courses at Rice, as well as other sources where you can practice and maintain your French. You will also learn about the methodology behind the first year courses, as well as the course objectives for the program and some useful tips that will help you enjoy your French course and your study of French in general.

After your first year program at Rice University, you will have ample opportunity to continue your study of French.
- One possibility is to become a French Major .
- Another possibility consists in spending a semester or a year studying in a French speaking country. Some scholarships are available for summer travel .
- Even on campus, there are several oportunities to partake in French related activities .
- You can also become a member of the French club on campus: Club Chouette .
- Finally, you can enroll in one of the courses that include a French Language Across the Curriculum component. These courses offered in different disciplines offer a one hour session during which French materials are discussed.
